Mickey Avalon (born Yeshe Perl; December 3, 1975) is an American rapper from Hollywood, California. His debut self-titled solo album was released Nov. 7, 2006 on Interscope/Shoot to Kill Records in association with MySpace Records. Frequent topics of Avalon's songs are his experiences with substance abuse and prostitution. Avalon was raised in a nonpracticing Jewish family and had a turbulent childhood. His paternal grandparents were Holocaust survivors who were imprisoned at Auschwitz.
J.Lately, born Jeremy Namkung, is an American rapper from Sebastopol, California. Lately entered the hip hop scene in 2009 with his debut mixtape, Straight Outta Somewhere, presented by 2Dopeboyz.com. J.Lately’s name comes from the idea that one should continually seek change through growth and progression versus the thought that change is bad and one shouldn’t be different than they used to be, so this is him, "Lately." J.Lately started rapping casually during the middle of his school years at Analy High School where cadence and flow came naturally to him. It wasn’t until he went to college where he got deep into hip hop as an artist and began performing shows.
Growing up as the bi-racial son of Korean and Canadian immigrant parents, and feeling like he never quite had a place to fit in, J.Lately is able to find the common ground in the middle. He distinguishes himself as an emcee with his soulful style and laid back flow. A true appreciation for music along with the unique ability to put everyday life into a relatable perspective has allowed him to flourish in the Bay Area scene and beyond. His music possesses the rare ability to make you contemplate and vibe out simultaneously, finding the perfect balance between the conscious and the stoner. Coming from the small town of Sebastopol, and having split time between Oakland and Southern California, his influences are eclectic and mesh together effortlessly to form his own individual style. A relentless drive has kept Lately on tour across the country supporting Bay Area heavy hitters Zion I, Andre Nickatina, Locksmith, and A-Plus of the Hieroglyphics.
